Cropping photos for any layout
Cropping removes the edges of an image to focus on the subject, tidy up a composition or fit a required shape. A square 1:1 crop suits profile pictures and many social posts, 4:5 works well for portrait posts, 9:16 matches vertical stories and full-screen phone layouts, and 16:9 fits widescreen slides, video thumbnails and banners. With the Free option you can draw any shape you like.
You can work visually by dragging the box and its handles over the image, or precisely by typing the X and Y position and the width and height in pixels. The arrow keys move the crop box in small steps, which is handy for lining up an edge exactly. The cropper handles one image at a time, so you can frame each picture individually.
Your image is cropped locally in the browser and never uploaded to Intera Tools servers, and metadata such as EXIF and GPS location is removed from the result. The cropper works the same way in desktop, tablet and mobile browsers. When the crop looks right, download it or continue straight to Resize Image or Compress Image without uploading the file again.
Frequently asked questions
How do I crop an image to a square?
Select the 1:1 ratio preset and the crop box locks to a square. Drag it into position and apply the crop.
Can I crop to an exact pixel size?
Yes. Enter the X and Y position along with the width and height in pixels to define the crop area exactly.
Can I crop several images at once?
The cropper works on one image at a time so each picture can be framed individually. To give many images the same dimensions, use Resize Image instead.
Does cropping reduce image quality?
Cropping only removes the area outside the box; the remaining pixels are not scaled. The image is then saved again in its original JPG, PNG or WebP format.
Does the cropper work on my phone?
Yes. It works in desktop, tablet and mobile browsers with the same features.
