Why convert WebP to JPG?

WebP is a modern image format that many websites use because it keeps files small. When you save an image from a web page, you may end up with a .webp file that some apps, older image editors, online forms or upload fields don't accept. Converting it to JPG gives you a file in the most widely supported photo format, so you can edit, share, print or upload it without compatibility problems.

WebP can contain transparency but JPG cannot, so transparent areas are filled with a background color you choose, white by default. Some WebP files are animated; in that case the first frame is converted to a still JPG image. The quality slider balances detail against file size, and the JPG may be somewhat larger than the original WebP, because WebP usually compresses more efficiently.

All conversion happens in your browser with no upload, and metadata such as EXIF and GPS location is removed from the results. You can convert up to 100 WebP files per batch and download them individually or together as a ZIP. If you need a PNG instead, for example to keep transparency, use the Convert Image tool and choose PNG as the output format.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I open WebP images?

Some older apps, editors and websites do not support the WebP format. Converting the file to JPG makes it compatible with practically any software.

What happens to animated WebP files?

Only the first frame is used, so an animated WebP becomes a single still JPG image.

Will the JPG be larger than the WebP file?

It can be, because WebP often compresses more efficiently than JPG. Lowering the quality slider makes the JPG smaller.

What happens to transparency?

JPG does not support transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a background color. White is used by default.

Is the WebP to JPG converter free?

Yes. It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.
